Batik According to the Unesco Decree

Batik is a fabric whose fabric is made specifically by writing or applying night on the fabric, then processing it in a particular way that has a specific characteristic. Indonesian batik, as a whole of techniques, technology, and the development of motifs and related cultures, has been designated by UNESCO (Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity).

Batik According to Indonesian National Standards

Batik is a handicraft as a result of staining by obstruction using hot wax (batik wax) as a color barrier with the main tool of batik wax sticking in the form of writing canting and or canting cap to form certain motifs that have meaning (SNI 0239: 2014).
There are 3 types of batik in Indonesia, namely:

1. Written Batik, the manufacturing process through the stages of preparation, patterning, batik, coloring, pelorodan and refinement of making this type of batik takes approximately 2-3 months.
2. Batik Cap, which is made by using the main tool of canting cap as a tool to attach the night
3. Batik Combination, which is made by using the main tool of canting cap and writing canting. (SNI 0239: 2014)

Seeing the different types of batik, written batik, stamp and combination are distinguished according to the time of manufacture and some differences in the use of tools. The time needed to make batik the fastest is about one to two weeks to produce printed batik, provided the stamp used is available and ready to use. Meanwhile, to make a stamp of copper it takes about two to three weeks. To produce stamped batik we need about three to four weeks. And for making fine written batik the normal time used is around four to five months. The higher the level of difficulty, the time required can sometimes reach seven to eight months. And naturally if the price of batik is quite expensive because the manufacturing process is indeed not easy, it requires special expertise and artistic creations from the maker. The batik that we now see on the market is already a combination batik. Indonesian batik craftsmen always develop and innovate to create new batik motifs by not leaving traditional impressions and values in them. Modern batik still has meaning and philosophy in every stroke.
